NC State moves into Top 25 in ESPN Power Rankings after FSU win

There’s nothing like a little growing hype to get Wolfpack Nation riled up after a big win. That’s exactly what ESPN provided Sunday after NC State’s convincing 27-21 win in Tallahassee on a national stage.

According to the updated ESPN Power Index, NC State is now the No. 21 team in the nation after the win over the Seminoles.

That’s an eight-spot jump from last week where the Pack was ranked No. 29 and only one notch behind where ESPN had State listed during preseason at No. 20.

A win over FSU might have propelled the Pack back into the Top 25 discussion, but a win over Syracuse is a necessity to stay there. The Orange have a versatile quarterback in Eric Dungeywho leads the program in passing yards (1,052), rushing yards (233) and total touchdowns (11) this season.

After having success against a true freshman quarterback, the Wolfpack defense — the secondary in particular — will be tested against Cuse. If the Pack can get Mike Stevens and/or Dexter Wright back in the defensive backfield against the Orange, ESPN might not be the only rankings that have it inside the Top 25.
